Real Life Story
The needs of our nation's heroes far outweigh the resources available to help. No one organization can do it all. There are quite literally thousands of small, unknown grassroots organizations all over the country, started by individuals with a passion for helping our heroes, who could not help without our funding. Day in & day out, these volunteers work tirelessly, often spending money from their own pockets to make sure the needs of our military are met. They rely on the support of their own communities & from organizations like the ASMBA STAR Foundation.
One of those organizations is the Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council in Lehigh Valley, PA, who reports that with our help, they were able to award 11 scholarships to deserving veterans & their families this year.At monthly Stand Down events, they go into the areas where homeless veterans gather & live & bring them in to the events & givethem food, clothing, medical assistance, & assist them with getting VA benefits & help them find permanent living arrangements.Their homeless programs help homeless veterans become a viable part of society by teaching them computer skills, how to interview for a job, & assist them with transportation to & from job interviews.
Their "Veteran's Reading Brigade" program enlists veterans to read to boys & girls in elementary school, teaching them about the military & veteran communities. The "Healing Waters" program assists wounded heroes with daily issues they face after coming home from deployment. Finally, the "Academics for Veterans Educational Fair" focuses on VA benefits, college scholarships & other community resources for veterans.
